Overhead pressing is mandatory if you are an athlete or weekend warrior to increase size and strength. The One-Arm DB Shoulder Press is a great exercise to use for many reasons:
- It develops unilateral overhead pressing strength and power.
- It can build strong delts.
- It can help drive your bench press numbers up.
- It can create a strong core.

Start by holding the dumbbell at ear-level using a neutral-grip. Your opposite leg should be placed forward with your free hand holding onto an immoveable object to stabilize yourself. As you press the dumbbell over your head, turn it so that your palm is pointing forward. It’s important to brace your abs while lifting. The last thing you want to do is to arch your back. The only thing that will do is create a financial payday for your physio. Also, it’s important to note that generally people opt to sacrifice form in order to look good by lifting heavy. If your back arches, it’s generally a tell-tale sign that you’re lifting too heavy, and that you should check your ego at the door or your back at the clinic.
